As a family of cooks and creatives, we seldom neglect the beverage part of celebrations. Known for our “signature cocktails,” we enjoy marking holidays and special gatherings with a drink that suits the occasion. This apple cider recipe was the idea of my darling daughter, Allison. The cider reduction is great for non-alcoholic drinks, too. Add it to ginger beer or over ice with a splash of seltzer.

Apple Cider Spritzer

A mulled cider base for beverages spiked or soft.

ingredients:

  • 2 qts. apple cider
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp allspice berries
  • ½ tsp freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. whole cloves
  • 1 ½ oz. bourbon
  • 4 oz. prosecco
  • non-alcoholic ginger beer and/or club soda for soft version

How to cook Apple Cider Spritzer

  1. In a saucepan large enough to hold the cider, add spices and bring to a boil over high heat. Stirring occasionally, reduce the cider to approximately 2 cups about 40 minutes.
  2. Allow to cool and strain.
  3. For each cocktail, add 2 tbl. cider reduction over ice. Add bourbon and Prosecco and stir gently.
